My Teenager is Crazy

“It takes a village to raise a child ”

Yesterday my son turned 13, when I was 13, I believe I was thinking about how I was going to get my boyfriend to hold my hand and maybe one of those pecks on the cheek kisses, but nowadays these kids are way more sexually advanced than we were. I am saying this from a mother’s point of view so any dads out there please let me know what you were thinking about. So, my son had a sleepover and I allowed my 14 yr. old daughter to have one friend over and they were to stay upstairs in her bedroom. Everything was going well and at 12am I went downstairs to make sure everyone was separated and in their assigned sleeping areas. I get up at 5am to go to work and find my new teenager lying in bed sleeping (clothes on at least) with my daughter’s friend.

Of course, I freaked out and screamed WTF is going on? They both jumped up with the same excuse that she was bored in my daughter’s room and came to hang out with my son and they just fell asleep. So, I separated them again, told them just how disappointed I was with them and went to work. While at work I printed out every horrifying STD picture I could find. On my way home I bought a pack of condoms and a banana and went home to show everyone in the house (all friends included) how to put a condom on and that if they don’t use them then (as I hold up all those pictures) this is going to happen to them and some have no cure. As I am showing these pictures my smart-ass son stands up and says to the group that he just saw on the T.V. that there is now a cure for Herpes and that’s the worst one. I wanted to strangle him and tell him if I found out he wasn’t using a condom then I would cut off his new favorite part of his body!

So, what should I have done, did I take it too far? They said I embarrassed them! Are they right? Do you have any stories about when your kids started liking girls/boys and if you have an older daughter and a younger son or vice versa only a few years apart what do you do about sleepovers?

I know right…Kids seem to be growing up faster than I did at their age, they are more advanced and it’s scary because they still have the so much to learn.
